In session with provincial wildfire administration officers from the Saskatchewan Public Security Company, Cameco has decided that the chance to Cigar Lake posed by the fireplace has now subsided.
With improved climate and smoke circumstances, minimal chance of additional highway closures within the space, and all infrastructure at Cigar Lake remaining intact, the corporate has concluded that the total complement of personnel could be safely remobilized and common operations resumed.
Cameco is now within the strategy of transporting workers and contractors again to web site. Last inspections and preparation of apparatus will happen over the times forward to prepared the operation for a return to manufacturing.
Cigar Lake is the world’s highest grade uranium mine, producing ore in 2020 with a median grade of 15.92% uranium oxide. The mine’s ore is processed 70 km northeast, on the McClean Lake mill, operated by Orano.
Cameco owns 50% of the Cigar Lake mine and is venture operator. The opposite homeowners are Orano Canada (37%), Idemitsu Canada Assets (8%), and TEPCO Assets (5%).
